Joanna O’Keeffe

Canadian Program Teacher

Ever since I was a child attending school in Boston, Massachusetts, I have been fascinated by animals and water landscapes. Later, I moved to the United Kingdom, where I completed a Master’s degree. Due to my lifelong concern for the environment I chose a course in Natural Resource Management at Cranfield University. I conducted research at Michigan State University and Texas A&M before earning a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Warsaw University of Life Sciences. My work as a scientist focused on researching and modelling the effects of climate change on river ecosystems. I published several scientific papers and gained a deep appreciation for learning and discovery.

After many years in academia, I felt inspired to share my love of science in a different way, by helping young learners explore and understand the world around them. This led me to complete a teaching degree at the School of Education of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation and the University of Warsaw. At our school, I teach Science to students in grades 4-8.

Outside of work, I love exploring new places in my campervan, getting creative with arts and crafts, and cooking up spicy Asian-inspired dishes.
